Sheffield S6 Foodbank was given a boost by a collection run by members of Fulwood branch on Saturday 28th July 2018.
A wall of filled crates gradually built up outside Fulwood Co-op store with donations of food and other items.
Fulwood branch treasurer Judy Horton organised the event. She obtained permission from the Co-op for the stall to be set up outside the store and liaised with the foodbank. In the days leading to the collection around 1,000 leaflets were delivered to homes in the area giving details of the goods needed.
“Everyone who helped or donated can know it was a success for S6,” she said. “Also a thank you to the Co-op for supporting us. And the rain kept away!”
After more than four hours collecting nearly 30 crates were filled and there was also donations of cash.
Chris Hardy from the S6 Foodback said the summer saw increased demands as many families struggled over the school holidays. He added: “This type of collection is the boost we need – thank you.”
